Too many of us are not living our dreams because we are living our fears.- Les Brown

Happy Halloween!

I hope that you have a safe time tonight if you celebrate this holiday. I plan on staying in the house and giving away candy to the kids in the neighborhood. I have not been home on Halloween in years! It’s going to be fun! I’m sure the kids will SCARE me tonight.

Recently, I received words of wisdom from a teacher named Dallas Travers who told me fear and excitement are chemically the same. I had to take that in. “Fear and excitement are chemically the same…” They feel the same way in the body. What I received out of that was I can tell myself, when I get fearful, that it is not fear I am feeling but it’s EXCITEMENT.

I tested that theory when I went to 6 flags and was about to get on a big roller coaster. A BIG roller coaster. The BIG roller coaster I did not want to get on! But, I didn’t want to look like a SCAREDY-CAT to my friends. How did my theory pan out? It worked! I really enjoyed myself on all the roller coasters. I tried the theory out again when I had an audition the following week, it worked again! Could this be real?

My challenge for you in November, as you are face with fear in your life and career, that you tell yourself “this is not fear this is EXCITEMENT.

Here is an article titled- Overcome the Fear of Success: 6 Ways to Start Thriving

Happy Thanksgiving to those of you who are in the US celebrate this holiday. I really hope you enjoy this time and that you find time to have a moment to reflect on what you are grateful for. What I am grateful for is still having my parents active in my life.

Over this past month I discovered both sadness and admiration. My father’s father passed away this month and of course it was a sad day. But what I discovered, is that it does not matter how old I am, I still watch what my father does. How he handles situations. The day of the funeral, I felt like the 4 year old little girl watching her father’s every move.At the funeral, my father, the proud military man, went from trying to be the strong son by not shedding a tear, to breaking down and weeping. Twenty seconds later, having a thought come across his mind, gathering the cool, young family around in a huddle, cracking a smile along with another thought that caused him to chuckle before he could speak, and then proceeding to tell a joke that my grandfather would have probably told us himself, if he could have been at his own funeral to tell one last good joke to make us laugh.

I admired my father even more at that moment. He went from pain to joy in less than 20 seconds. He taught me that you can be strong in the mist of tears and that you can always find joy in the mist of pain. It’s just how we choose to look at it. It is a lesson and a memory I will never forget.

The next time you go though pain, find the joy. It’s all in the way we choose to see adversity.

Any fool can be happy when times are good. It takes a strong soul with real heart to develop smiles out of situations that make us weep.

I’ve missed more than 9000 shots in my career. I’ve lost almost 300 games. 26 times I’ve been trusted to take the game winning shot and missed. I’ve failed over and over again in my life. And that is why I succeed.- Michael Jordan

September is here and 2013 is almost over. I’ve had lots of successes this year, but I had to ask myself last months newsletter question, “Have I been playing small?”

I recently read a Forbes article about Billionaire Sara Blakely, the founder of Spanx. She said that her father each day would ask her, “So what did you fail at today?” And if there were no failures, her father would be disappointed. Further, she said that focusing on failing big allowed her to understand that failure is not an outcome, but involves a lack of trying- not stretching yourself far enough out of your comfort zone and attempting to be more than you were the day before. Failing big was a good thing.

I realized I need to step out my comfort zone this last quarter of the year. And I did in a big way! I am now bicoastal! Well, South coastal. I have places in Atlanta and Los Angeles and I have been traveling back and forth! I am racking up mileage I must say. So, don’t fret if you need me in LA, I am there, and if you need me in the dirty South, I am also there. I stepped out on faith, I am being bold, and I’m willing to fail in order to succeed.

The article – 10 Lessons Billionaire Sara Blakely gives.

What have you failed at today? What do you really want out of life? When was the last time you stepped out of your comfort zone to get it? Remember failing big is a good thing.

In order to succeed, your desire for success should be greater than your fear of failure.

- Bill Cosby

Have a fabulous September.

We ask ourselves, “Who am I to be brilliant, gorgeous, talented, fabulous?” Actually, who are you not to be? - Marianne Williamson

August is gone! And my travels are complete. I returned a few days ago from Winston Salem, Omaha, Greenville, & Atlanta. Last month’s newsletter was about who we will influence. I randomly found 8 students in Winston Salem who I was able to touch.

What did I learned from that experience? I learned that the most influence I had on them was by being brilliant, gorgeous, talented, and fabulous. Although I gave them advise, I realized, it wasn’t until they saw my wisdom in action, on stage performing, that gave them the boldness to be GREAT. One of the students came to me 2 days later and said, “A recuiter from NYU saw my monolgue & wants to sit and talk with me! Thank you for your wisdom & your confidence. It helped me to be my best today.”

Are you playing small? Or you are being brilliant, gorgeous, talented and fabulous?

Our deepest fear is not that we are inadequate. Our deepest fear is that we are powerful beyond measure. It is our light, not our darkness that most frightens us. We ask ourselves. “Who am I to be brilliant, gorgeous, talented, fabulous?” Actually, who are you not to be? You are a child of God. Your playing small does not serve the world. There is nothing enlightened about shrinking so that other people won’t feel insecure around you. We are all meant to shine, as children do…And as we let our own light shine, we unconsciously give other people permission to do the same. As we are liberated from our own fear, our presence automatically liberates others.
